In the eastern parts of Swedish Lapland, along the 300 kilometre coastline beside the largest brackish water archipelago in the world, you will find the glistening coastal gem, Piteå. Piteå and its environs play host to many visitors all year round. In winter, when dressed in winter garb, the magnificent nature and the expansive views are more beautiful than ever.

Day One - Friday

Arrive at Luleå airport on your incoming flight. Here you will be greeted by our team and shown to your transfer bus for the 45 mintues to Piteå.

Kust Hotell - 3 nights

If you go up one more flight, you’ll discover Bar Tage, where you can enjoy excellent aperitifs and of course drink in the view. In addition to Kust Hotel’s restaurant the area surrounding the hotel, in central Piteå, has a range of great restaurants and cafes for you to explore during your stay.

Northern Lights Safari 2 hours

The first evening your guide will meet your after dinner to fit you out with winter outer clothes and and take you on a hunt for the northern lights. We drive to one of the coastal hills of Piteå, and do a short hike to the top with a splendid view of the coast and the night sky. We may use snowshoes if there is plenty of snow. At the top of the hill, we study the night sky and wait for the magic and mysterious northern lights - Aurora Borealis. Your guide, natural scientist, and specialist in northern light photography will help you to interpret what you experience and how to take photos of the sky. As we will be out in the elements when viewing the aurora you will need to bring with you warm clothing.
Included: Pick-up at Kust Hotel, transfer to the viewing point, warm northern light drink and snacks, celestial guide.

Day Two - Saturday
Guided Tour Piteå

Depending on the winter conditions, the guided tour takes you along coastal Piteå from Jävre in the south, along Piteå River, central Piteå and the countryside north of Piteå. The tour may include visits at Jävre light-house and tourist station (from the 1960s), Labyrinth at Arkeologstigen at Högberget in Jävre, Bölebyns Tanner and Piteå River, Svensbyn and the Solander trail farm visit at Euforia or Stormyrberget, , Rosfors bruk and Jössgården, Öjebyns kyrkstad, Reindeer island (Renön), Acusticum, Old Central Piteå, and other places. Pick-up at Kust Hotel. What to bring: Outdoor clothing and shoes for the season.


Day Three - Sunday
Icebreaker Tour - 2 hours

At taxi will transfer you to the harbour from the hotel for the Icebreaker tour. Listen to the sound of the ice blocks being crushed against the hull of the boat. Experience what it feels to break up 70 cm of ice. Challenge the laws of nature under safe and comfortable conditions on the Arctic Explorer. In this experience participants have the opportunity take a walk on the ice or, for the adventurous, to swim among the ice floes in a survival suit. This suit will keep you completely isolated and dry from the freezing water. The Icebreaker safari is a two-hour cruise for everyone! You can stand on the hull and watch the snow & ice-covered landscape, visit the machine room or say hello to the Captain at the Captain ́s bridge. Hot beverages and light snacks are available for purchase on the ship. What to bring:  Outdoor clothing and shoes for the season.

Optional Activity

Dogsledding 2 hours sitting on a sled: SEK 2483 per person We offer exciting dog-sledding tours in the beautiful and peaceful village of Tranuträsk where the husky farm is located. Our tours go over ice covered lakes and through the wild forest, offering us great opportunities to vary this ancient way of travelling on snow and ice. With our highly skilled sled-guides and well trained, friendly dogs - Alaskan Husky - we provide a high quality, unforgettable nature-experience. On this tour you will be sitting on a sled driven by a professional guide. What to bring: Outdoor clothing and shoes for the season. Transfer to and from is by Taxi.


Day Four - Monday

Today your will have time for a walk around town before departing at 11:00 on your transfer to Luleå airport for your direct flight home.
